SAP BusinessObjects 3.1 Service Pack 6 Released

A few of us here at Altek just returned from the SAPInsider BI 2013 Conference, where I heard that Service Pack 6 for SAP BusinessObjects 3.1 was recently released. This release is mainly a roll-up of current fixes but also includes some additional supported platforms on both the server and client side. According to the Forward Fit Guide, Service Pack 6 includes all fixes from Fix Packs 5.3, 4.4, and 3.8. This is important to note — if you are currently on Fix Pack 5.4, you will actually lose those fixes by upgrading to Service Pack 6. However, there are a few changes worth noting.

Improved Support

SP6 includes several new supported platforms. Of particular note, SP6 now ships with the Tomcat 7/JDK 1.6 platform for the web applications. Support for Tomcat 5.5 has been dropped completely! In addition to this, SP6 adds support for Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, and SQL Server 2012, as well as browser support for Safari 6 and Internet Explorer 10.

Report Conversion Tool Instance Conversion

Service Pack 6 adds the ability to convert existing Desktop Intelligence report instances to Web Intelligence report instances. This is important for users who keep instances of reports for historical reasons.

Webi Support for Excel 2007

Web Intelligence now supports exporting to Excel 2007 (.XLSX) format. This new format allows for more rows and columns to be exported than the previous Excel 2003 format.

Fix to OpenDocument

Finally, SP6 fixes an issue that limited the length of the OpenDocument URL to 2083 characters. These longer URLs can now be used to link directly to any BI content.
