Sri,

The above example does not use QaaWS. It uses Web Intelligence exporting to an excel file. Essentially the publishing plugin and batch utility takes the excel file generated from the WebI and replaces the one that is in the SWF file. At that point, the new SWF with the updated excel file is sent out to the recipient.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

Can you please explain how you used QaaWS and published the dashboard? Your reply is really appreciated.

Thanks.

That is correct Femke. The license is only consumed when BusinessObjects runs the publication. Once it is sent out the end users can view the dashboard as many times as they want and they will not hit a license because the data is not live. Scheduling and publications are always solutions when users do not need live (real time) data.

Hi Mike,

Great post, I have not heard of this plugin before.

With this way of publishing you do not have a swf with database connections. I always understood that with database refresh capabilities built-in you need to have viewer licenses for each person wanted to look at your dashboard. With your publishing method, there is no database refresh technically, all you need is the the BO environment and the plugin. Therefor a company with a few licenses can distribute dashboards to a lot of non-licensed viewers.

Is my assumption correct, did you have experience with this license issue?

Can you tell me how you managed to get the batch.exe file. I've spoken to several people at SAP (account manager, consultants, etc) and they were unable to track it down. Could you perhaps email me a copy. Many thanks.

Great post. Does this work when we create SWF from Excel file that have custom Excel formula to get the data and then use it in Xcelsius? I guess this plugin and batch would work only if we use an Excel file AS IS without any extra Excel formulas. Is that correct? Thanks!
