Backed by research and development, they use their strengths in mobility, optical, software, data and voice networking technologies, as well as services, to create new revenue-generating opportunities for its customers, while enabling them to quickly deploy and better manage their networks.

The Challenge

The client wanted to develop a secure, business intelligence portal to provide a user-friendly mechanism to access planning information. The main benefit of this solution is the ability for users to “pull” information according to their specific roles and interests, and extract, save and print relevant Planning Information.

The client was very concerned with the prospect of having to train hundreds of managers to use an additional system for reporting. They wanted to minimize, if not eliminate, the need for a formal training program.

The Solution

Altek Solutions designed, developed and implemented a self-service, customized business intelligence portal as part of the client's existing intranet.

The solution, built upon the Business Objects WebIntelligence object model, allows the client to leverage their existing BI infrastructure to create reports and support the query process, but streamlines the delivery of information to end-users in a way that minimizes training and IT support requirements.

The solution, dubbed the My Planning Portal allows users to subscribe to prebuilt reports; defining the criteria, delivery schedule and delivery method for each. A nightly batch process refreshes the reports, and delivers them to users through email.

A side benefit is the fact that the system was designed to utilize standard web controls, such as drop down boxes and radio buttons, eliminating the need for specialized training or support.
